General Manager - Andrew (Butch) Castles
After an 11 year stint at Ellerslie as Director of Racing, Andrew (Butch) Castles returns to Hawke’s Bay to take on the role as General Manager at HB Racing. With a career that has involved the thoroughbred and liquor industries Castles is well credentialed to face the many challenges encountered by Racing Clubs. Castles is looking forward to being involved in all aspects of the business and sees the fast growing HB economy as one that will provide many opportunities for HB Racing. Having raced a number of horses over the years from the New Plymouth stable of Allan Sharrock when not indulging his thoroughbred passion he can be found spending time with his wife and young family.

Racecourse Manager - Richard Fenwick
Richard is our Racecourse Manager and as such is responsible for keeping our race track in pristine condition and it is due to the efforts of Richard and his team that Hawke's Bay enjoys the reputation of being New Zealand's best racing surface. Richard and his team also look after the training facilities at Wall Road. Richard is originally from the Wairarapa where he was Track Manager at the Tauherenikau racecourse. Richard and his partner Corrina MacDougal breed and race the odd horse, with Richards training abilities best described as assistant to the lovely Corrina!
Office Manager – Gayle Richardson
Track and Grounds Staff
We are also very fortunate to have a dedicated team of Track and Grounds Staff and it's due to the expertise of this team the Hawke's Bay Racing facilities are in such pristine condition all year round.
Chris is charged with fixing anything and everything around the racecourse. A Hastings local, Chris had a distinguished career with Tourist Kelt Motors. Married with 4 children who are across the world, his 7 grandchildren are spread far and wide, all thoroughly spoiled however when they come home for holidays.
Peter has worked on the Hastings racecourse for over 22 years and as a result is on a first name basis with every blade of grass. A Farrier outside hours, and on raceday, Peter is well known for his skills on the anvil. Peter also mans the gap in the morning for trackwork and maintains the safe training environment; he is distinguishable by his sense of humor and positive outlook on life.
Craig has had a variety of roles within Hawke’s Bay Racing and his current full time role is that of Track Assistant. Craig has a military background and brings a fair amount of brawn to the surrounds. An approachable chap, he also farms goats and makes cheese. Married with two boys, he gets plenty of support from the lads when attempting to milk his super friendly goats.
