Vannoss and a three-year-old by Shocking, both in the Lowry/Cullen stable, were impressive winners at today’s Hastings jumpouts.

There were six heats, run about half-way out on the course proper, which provided slow footing after heavy overnight rain.

Vannoss is a three-year-old gelding by Sufficient out of Traditionally mare Traditional Bride. He was ridden in the jumpout by Awapuni apprentice Leah Hemi and scored a neck win in the second of two 750-metre heats. His winning time of 48.4s was slightly faster than the other 750-metre heat.

The Shocking three-year-old won the second of two 1000-metre heats and his winning time of 1:3.7 was almost a second faster than the other heat. Masa Tanaka was aboard the gelding and steered him to a 1-1/4 length win.

Heat 2, 750m: Thorn Park-Sirani 3yr-old gelding (T Morgan) 1, Shocking 2yr-old filly 2, O’Reilly-Vickezzchardonnay 2yr-old filly 3. Five starters. Margins: Neck, 2-1/2 lengths. Time: 48.7s. Winner trained by John Bary, Hastings.

Heat 3, 750m: Vannoss (L Hemi) 1, Rip Van Winkle-Snippins 2yr-old 2, Darci Brahma 2yr-old filly 3. Five starters. Margins: Neck, 2 lengths. Time: 48.4s. Winner trained by Guy Lowry & Grant Cullen, Hastings.

Heat 4, 1000m: Road To Rock 3yr-old filly (Z Thomson) 1, Bear 2, Sir Percy 4yr-old 3. Five Starters. Margins: 2-1/4 lengths, 3 lengths. Time: 1:4.5. Winner trained by John Bary, Hastings.

Heat 5, 1000m: Shocking 3yr-old gelding (M Tanaka) 1, Nadeem 3yr-old gelding 2, Tavijazz 3. Five starters. Margins: 1-1/4 lengths, 3 lengths. Time: 1:3.7. Winner trained by Guy Lowry & Grant Cullen, Hastings.

Heat 6, 1200m: Peso (L Hemi) 1, Perry Mason 2, Gallapagos 3. Three starters. Margins: 2 lengths, 4 lengths. Time: 1:19.1. Winner trained by Paul Nelson, Hastings.
