Hastings Jumpouts

BY JOHN JENKINS

Impressive wins by the Guy Lowry-trained stablemates Jimmysstar and Zambezi Khan were among the highlights at today’s Hastings jumpouts.

There were 14 heats held outside cones on the course proper, where the ground provided heavy footing.

Jimmysstar contested one of the eight 1000m heats and raced clear of his three rivals over the final stages to win by 2-1/2 lengths over one of last season’s star two-year-olds in Best Seller and clocked a time of 1:03.19.

The Per Incanto four-year-old gelding recorded a win and a second from his only two starts last season and has been given a long slow build up in a new preparation. Lowry said the aim is to kick him off again in a $65,000 Rating 65 race over 1300m on the first day of the Colliers Hawke’s Bay Spring Carnival, on September 9.

Zambezi Khan is also being aimed at the Hawke’s Bay spring carnival and she caught the eye when dashing between runners late to win her 1000m heat by a long neck.

The Mongolian Khan three-year-old has also only had two starts, winning on debut over 1000m at Tauherenikau and then finishing fifth in the Listed Wellesley Stakes (1100m) at Trentham.

Wins by Courvoisier and the John Bary-trained trio of Spring Tide, Blissful Belle and Pegau were other highlights at the jumpouts while several jumpers from the Nelson/McDougal stable contested the two 2200m heats, including stable stars The Cossack, Nedwin and Suliman. The latter could be headed south for this Saturday’s $100,000 Grand National Hurdles (4200m).
