Open class sprinter-miler No Rock No Pop showed she has come back from a brief spell in good order by easily winning a 750-metre heat at today’s Hastings jumpouts.
Nine heats were run up against the running rail on the course proper, where the ground was heavy.
No Rock No Pop had promising apprentice Lily Sutherland aboard and proved too good for her two rivals in the last of five 750m heats, winning by 6 lengths and clocking the fastest time of 48.56s.
No Rock No Pop has not raced since finished unplaced in the Listed Kaimai Stakes (2000m) at Matamata in late February and before that she had finished third in the Listed Wairarapa Breeders’ Stakes (1600m).
Other impressive winners at the jumpouts were a Mongolian Khan two-year-old gelding, Master Brewer and Podium.
The Mongolian Khan two-year-old looked a racy type from the Vicki Wilson stable and won a 400m dash by six lengths while Master Brewer scored by 5 lengths in a 1000m heat and clocked a respectable time of 1:03.72. Co-trainer Mick Brown said the Playmaker gelding could resume racing within the next couple of weeks.
Podium, although not entirely happy in the heavy track conditions, still cleared out from her rivals to win her 1000m by 3-1/2 lengths.
The Ocean Park mare showed good potential when winning on debut at Wanganui in April but may now be turned out for a winter spell and come back in the spring.
