Talented three-year-old filly Shezzacatch continued her preparation towards the Group 3 $70,000 Cambridge Breeders Stakes at Te Rapa on Saturday week with a strong winning performance at today’s Hastings jumpouts.

There were seven heats held up against the running rail on the course proper, where the ground was dead.

Shezzacatch contested the second of two 1000m heats and cleared out from her three rivals over the final stages to win by 5 lengths. Her winning time of 1:01 was more than a second faster than the other 1000m heat.

Shezzacatch was unsuited by a testing track when unplaced over 1200m at Awapuni last start but was a Listed stakes race winner over the same distance at the beginning of this season.

The Richard McKenzie-trained trio of Serengeti, Free Thyme and Estefania were other dominant winners at the jumpouts while the class winter galloper Dez was also seen in action and won a two-horse contest narrowly over 1200m.

Serengeti recorded the fastest time of the three 750m heats when clocking 45.1s. The Darci Brahma three-year-old bounced straight to the front in the hands of jockey Kate Hercock and never looked like being caught, crossing the line 7 lengths clear of the opposition.

Serengeti won a 1000m Foxton trial earlier this season and has had one race start for an unlucky fourth over 1200m at Hastings on New Year’s Day.

Free Thyme won the second of the 750m heats by 3-1/2 lengths in a time of 46.6s while Estefania clocked 45.4s when winning the other 750m heat by 2-3/4 lengths.

Trainer Richard McKenzie said all three of his horses will have another jumpout at Hastings on May 3. They will then all probably have an official barrier trial before resuming on race day.
