Imperial Party, a likely starter in the three and four-year-old race over 2100m at Otaki on Saturday, had a good hit out in company at today’s Hastings jumpouts.
There were six heats held up against the running rail on the course proper, which provided firm footing.
Imperial Party was one of only two horses who contested the 1400m heat and the pair stayed pretty much together throughout, with Imperial Party edging clear close to the line to get the decision by a long head.
Imperial Party is trained on the Hastings track by Patrick Campbell and was a game all the way winner in a maiden race over 2100m at Hastings last start.
An unraced Rageese two-year-old filly in the Sue Thompson and Mick Brown stable impressed when winning the second of two 750m heats. She came through along the inside rail in a close finish to beat a Super Easy-Flare three-year-old gelding by a head with a Reliable Man-Penny Whistle three-old filly only a neck away in third. The winning time of 45.8s was three seconds faster than the other 750m heat.
