Class winter galloper Dez showed he is coming up nicely in a new preparation by scoring a comfortable win at today’s Hastings jumpouts.

There were 10 heats run up against the running rail on the course proper, where the ground was dead.

Dez contested the only 1400m heat and beat three rivals, winning by 2-1/2 lengths in the hands of jockey Kate Hercock.

It was the second Hastings jumpout Dez has won in the past month, the other being over 1200m on April 19. Trainer Simon Wilson said he would like to give the horse another jumpout or a barrier trial before he looks for a race for him at the end of this month.

“Being another year older he is taking a bit longer to come up but hopefully he should be ready to race again by then and hopefully we get some rain to soften the tracks,” Wilson said.

Other impressive winners at the jumpouts were a Jakkalberry-Pebbles three-year-old gelding and a Swiss Ace-Midnight Molly three-year-old gelding.

The Jakkalberry gelding is a nice big horse trained by Kate Hercock and looked to have something in reserve when winning a 1000m heat by three-quarters of a length in a good time of 1:01.

The Swiss Ace-Midnight Molly three-year-old gelding is in the Lowry/Cullen stable and he beat the race winner Estefania by a neck in another 1000m heat. His winning time of 60.87s was the quickest of the four 1000m heats.
