Track Report 29 May 2012

Racing: Purple Haze

Purple Haze turned in an impressive last 600 metres at this morning’s Hastings track session, giving his stablemate Screamadelica a head-start and a beating in their workout.

Galloping was confined to the plough, which was conducive to fast times.

Purple Haze was a good two lengths behind Screamadelica when they left the 1000-metre peg but joined her entering the last 600 metres and was more than two lengths clear at the finish. They were timed to run the full 1000 metres in 1:9.5 and Purple Haze sprinted home the last 600 in 35.8.

Owner-trainer Andrew Peacock will enter both horses for this Saturday’s Wanganui meeting, Screamadelica in the Rating 65 1340-metre race and Purple Haze in the maiden 1340. The latter could be ready to show some form if he makes the field.

Whoopi Gee was another who turned in a fast time this morning, running a solo 1000 metres in 1:1.2, the last 600 in 35.6. She may line up next at the Foxton meeting at Waverley next Monday.

Ambitious Prince worked in from the 1200-metre peg on his own and was timed to run home the last 800 in 53.5 and final 600 in 38.2. He is another likely to be entered for the Rating 65 1340-metre race at Wanganui on Saturday.

Legal Advice worked in from the 1000-metre peg and was timed to run the last 800 in 56.8, the final 600 in 40.6. He is a three-year-old Zed gelding who may make his race debut in the 1340-metre maiden race at Wanganui.

Donnybrook had trainer Corinna McDougal aboard when running 800 metres in 51.9, sprinting home the last 600 in a quick 36.9.

Speed Up schooled well over nine hurdle fences in the centre and may make his hurdle debut at Wanganui on June 14.
