Track Report 16 Jun 2012

Racing: Maggie

The good galloper No Excuse Maggie showed she could be ready to show a return to form with a solid workout at this morning’s Hastings track session.

Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided slow footing after overnight rain.

No Excuse Maggie worked in from the 1200-metre peg. She was joined by stablemate Defiant mid-way through the gallop but then worked clear again over the final stages to record 1:21.1 for the full distance, the last 800 in 52.5 and final 600 in 38.

The No Excuse Needed mare won the listed Matamata Cup (1600m) and was placed in both the Group 3 Merial Metric Mile at Awapuni and Group 3 Thompson Handicap at Trentham earlier this season. She only managed seventh over 1400 metres at Rotorua last start but that was under weight-for-age conditions. She is a likely runner in the open 1600-metre race at this Friday’s Otaki meeting.

Defiant was timed to run his last 1000 metres in 1:6.1, the final 600 in 37.9. He finished sixth over 1600 metres at Hastings last start.

Screamadelica ended her work with 600 metres in 39.5. She found the track conditions a bit too good for her at Wanganui last week and owner-trainer Andrew Peacock is unsure where she will start next.

Trap For Boyz had trainer Theoni Morgan aboard when running an easy 800 metres in 56.1, the last 600 in 40.5 while Short Of Cents was not doing much more than three-quarter pace over 1000 metres, the last 600 in 44.2.

A Towkay- Make Up two-year-old gelding in the Lowry/Cullen stable was let off with just three-quarter pace over 1000 metres, running home the last 600 in 44.3.

The speedy mare Starguru was one of several horses restricted to just pacework. She won a 750-metre jumpout at Hastings last Tuesday and is being aimed at the 1200-metre open sprint at Hastings on June 30.
