Lady Guinness, preparing for Thursday’s Otaki meeting, strode out well in a solo gallop during a reasonably quiet track session at Hastings this morning.

Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided good footing. A penetrometer reading was taken on the course proper and came up as a dead-5.

Lady Guinness worked in at three-quarter pace from about the 800-metre peg and was let stride out over the last 600m in 38.1. The Falkirk mare has not had much luck in her two starts this campaign and will line up in the Rating 72 race over 1600m at Otaki, with apprentice Danielle Hirini aboard.

Not Allowed, a likely starter at Hastings on Sunday, was another who galloped well  on his own when working over 1200m in 1:22.9. He ran the first 600m in a leisurely 45.3 before quickening over the last 600 in 37.6. He hasn’t raced since August and will be entered for the Rating 65 1600 at the Hawke’s Bay meeting.

Kaipawe, another likely runner at Hastings on Sunday, was also sent over 1200m and recorded 1:22.7, the first 600 in 43.7 and the last 600 in 39 while Anzhelika, entered for the Maiden 1200, clocked 1:9.7 for 1000m, the last 600 in 39.5.

Keilib, another likely runner at Otaki on Thursday, ran a solo 1000m in 1:9.7, the last 600 in 40.
