HASTINGS JUMPOUTS

Impressive wins by Party Lights and Supercell were among the highlights at today’s Hastings jumpouts.

There were 12 heats conducted up against the running rail on the course proper, which provided good footing.

Party Lights contested the first heat, over 750m. He bounced out brilliantly from the barrier and showed his four rivals a clean set of heels, crossing the line 7 lengths clear and clocking a quick time of 46.1s. He is a two-year-old gelding by Belardo in the John Bary stable.

Supercell also led all the way when winning his 1000m heat, scoring by 2-1/4 lengths and recording one of the quickest times over the distance.

The Rip Van Winkle three-year-old is trained by John and James Bridge and has been freshened since only beating two home over 1600m at Otaki on March 10. He raced erratically and hung outwards during that race but ran straight and true in today’s jumpout. He may resume at next week’s Wanganui meeting.

Other good winners on the programme were Penny Royal, Fancy Like Lass and Wedding.

Penny Royal contested a strong 1000m heat and won by a neck over Magic Incanto, with third placed Candle only a head away and She’s So Reliable also close up in fourth. Penny Royal’s winning time of 60.2s was the same as Supercell took when winning his heat.

Fancy Like Lass also contested a 1000m heat and won by three-quarters of a length from a Tivaci two-year-old filly with a two-year-old filly by The Autumn Sun out of Savvy Dreams close up in third place.

Fancy Like Lass is a three-year-old filly by Hellbent in the Mick Brown and Sue Thompson stable who won an 800m Otaki trial on March 21 and then suffered severe interference when fifth on debut over 1000m at Tauherenikau five days later.

Wedding is a two-year-old filly by Pierro trained by John Bary and she was being eased down over the final stages when winning her 750m heat by 5-1/2 lengths, clocking 48.1s.
