One Dream One Soul indicated she is ready for a good performance in Friday’s Group 3 Manawatu Breeders Stakes at Awapuni when recording a good solo gallop at this morning’s Hastings track session.
Fast work was mainly confined to the plough, which provided good footing.
A penetrometer reading was taken on the course proper during he session and came up as a good-4, with showers predicted over the next few days.
The running rail will be in the true position for Saturday’s Hawke’s Bay meeting.
One Dream One Soul had Sue Thompson aboard when running over 1000m on the plough in 1:03.8, clocking 27.4 for the first 400m before coming home strongly over the last 600 in 36.4.
The Ekraar mare has not raced for almost a month but trainer Lee Somervell has kept her work up to the mark. Kosi Asano has been booked to ride her in Friday’s feature.
Free Bee was the only horse to work wide out on the No. 1 grass and she had co-trainer Mick Brown aboard when running 800m in 53.2, the last 600 in 37.8. She has disappointed in her last couple of starts but returns to her favourite home track this Saturday, in a Rating 75 race over 1400m.
Free Thyme, who contests the Rating 65 race over 1400m at Hastings on Saturday, was given two 600m runs on the plough, the first in an easy 39.7s and the second much quicker in 36s. Apprentice Bailey Rogerson has been booked to ride him.
Mr Bully Tee finished clear of stablemate Ginsident at the end of their 800m workout, the last 600 in a quick 35.8. He is likely to resume in the maiden 1600m race at Hastings on Saturday.
Hunta Pence worked on his own over 1200m in 1:14.7, running the first 600m in 37.1 and coming home the last 600 in 37.6. The No Excuse Needed 10year-old will be having his last race when he lines up in Saturday’s Listed Hawke’s Bay Cup. It will be the fifth consecutive time the horse has contested the 2200m event, after finishing third in 2018.
Ravenna Rose, who heads to Awapuni on Friday for a maiden race, was let off with an easy 800m in 54.5, the last 600 in 40.1. She had two starts back before Christmas for a fourth and a fifth and has been working well for some time.
Call Me Jack was not pushed out when running a solo 1000m in 1:13.7, the last 600 in 41.8 and he could head to the Waverley Point-To-Point jumping trials on Sunday.
Wewillrock worked in from the 1000m peg in 1:07.2, coming home the last 600 in 39.1. The El Roca gelding has been freshened since his good fresh up third over 1200m at Awapuni on April 1 and will not race again until the Hawke’s Bay meeting on April 29.
She’s Miss Gevious and a Belardo three-year-old gelding, both trained by Free Pratt and Caitlin Johnson, ended their work with 600m in 39.9s while a Keyano youngster and one by Time Test, in the same stable, ran 600m in 39s.
Rum, who is entered for the Rating 65 race over 1400m at Hastings on Saturday, showed his usual dash when speeding over 800m in 48.1, the last 600 in 35.8. He was scratched from Monday’s Woodville meeting, with the tack considered to be too firm for him.
Candle, who looks to be coming up well again for trainer Guy Lowry after a long break, worked in from the 800m peg in 55.1, coming home the last 600 in 39.9 while a Darci-Brahma-Erb three-year-old gelding and a Mongolian Khan three-year-old gelding worked together over 800m in 59.4, the last 600 in 40.2.
Bedtime Story and a two-year-old filly by The Autumn Sun out of Savvy Dreams worked in at three-quarter pace from the 1000m peg and quickened slightly over the last 600 in 40.3 while Magic Incanto ended her work with 600m in 41.9.
