Hastings Trackwork 14 March
John Jenkins | March 14, 2023

Duncan Creek indicated he is ready for a big performance in Saturday’s Group 1 $350.000 Levin Classic (1600m) at Trentham when he hit out strongly in company with open handicap winner Pep Torque at this morning’s Hastings track session.

Fast work was carried out on the plough (soft), with horses entered for stakes races at Trentham permitted to gallop wide out on the course proper, which provided reasonably good footing.

Duncan Creek and Pep Torque worked in from the 1200m peg on the course proper, running the first 600m in an easy 42.4 before coming home strongly over the last 600 in 35.1. Both horses were striding out well at the finish.

Duncan Creek looks to have trained on well since his close last start second at Awapuni while Pep Torque continues to thrive and will step up distance when he tackles Saturday’s $80,000 New Zealand St Leger (2600m) at Trentham.

John Bary brought four horses into the track and galloped two on the course proper in Blissful Belle and Lavita Vishvi. They ran 1200m in 1:20.1, the last 600 in 36.6. Lavita Vishvi is another entered for the New Zealand St Leger while Blissful Belle is nominated for the Group 3 $100,000 Cuddle Stakes (1600m).

Last start winner One Dream One Soul showed she is ready for another good performance in the Cuddle Stakes when running a solo 1200m workout on the plough, the last 1000m in 1:03.4 and final 600 in 36.1.

Can I Get An Amen and Sheezacatch, two others entered for black type races at Trentham, worked keenly together over 1000m on the course proper in 1:05.7, the last 600 in 35.1.

The John Bary-trained Swazi finished clear of stablemate The Republican at the end of 1000m on the plough in 1:06.8, the last 600 in 35.4 while Love Letter recorded 37s for the second of two 600m runs on the plough.

Free Bee and Mr Bully Tee were two others who worked on the course proper and they cam in from the 1200m peg in 1:20.9, running the first 600m in an easy 45.1 before quickening over the last 600 in 35.8.

A Proisir two-year-old filly and a Hellbent three-year-old filly, both in the Thompson/Brown stable, sprinted the last 600m of their work on the plough in 36s while Free Thyme worked early, in bad light, and was timed at 41.2 and 37.1 for two 600m runs.

Wewillrock was one of several horses from the Guy Lowry stable restricted to three-quarter pace, coming home his last 600m in 43.9. The El Roca gelding looks to have trained on well since his fresh up fourth over 1200m at Awapuni.

A Tavistock filly and one by Per Incanto, two others in the Lowry stable, ended their work on the plough with 600m in 41.2 while Herself worked in at three-quarter pace from the 1000m peg and clocked 42.4 for the last 600m.

Jimmysstar, Epirama, Ginsident, Call Me Jack and Ravina Rose were among others restricted to just three-quarter pace.
