Hastings Trackwork | 15 August 2023
John Jenkins | August 15, 2023

The stablemates Respond and Fancy Like Lass took the time honours at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session, where most horses were restricted to just three-quarter pace or slightly faster.

Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided soft footing.

Respond and Fancy Like Lass worked over 800m in 50.9, running the first 200m in 14.7 before quickening over the last 600 in 36.2.

Both horses had a run at last week’s Hastings jumpouts and will now head to the Foxton trials on August 29 before resuming racing.

Donardo showed he is on target for next week’s Pakuranga Hunt Cup at Te Rapa when he hit out strongly on his own when running the last 1000m of his work 1:07.4, the last 600 in 38.6. It was good work for a steeplechaser.

Jimmysstar, who was an impressive winner at last week’s Hastings jumpouts, worked well again on his own when running 800m in 54.1, the last 600 in 39.2 while Free Bee had co-trainer Mick Brown aboard when running 800m in 54.5, the last 600 in 39.6. Both horses are coming up well in their new campaigns.

Metallo had trainer Lucy de Lautour aboard when he worked well over 1000m in 1:07.7, the last 600 in 39.1 while his stablemate Ian’s Legacy ran over the same ground in 1:10.6, the last 600 in 39.4. Both horses could line up in the hurdle race at Rotorua this Sunday.

Stablemates Ravenna Rose and Supercell worked in easily from the 1000m peg in 1:15.9, the last 600 in 42.1 and they are both likely to start next at the Waverley meeting on Friday of next week.

Courvoisier, another who won nicely at last week’s Hastings jumpouts, worked in from the 1000m peg and was timed to run the last 800m in 53.9 and final 600 in 39.2. She is likely to have a trial at Foxton on August 29 before she resumes racing.

Candle and The Stoney One were among several horses from the Guy Lowry stable restricted to just three-quarter pace, running 800m in 57.1, the last 600 in 42.8.

Herself ran home her last 600m in 42.9 and is now being aimed at the New Zealand Cup (3200m) in November while Zambezi Khan clocked 55.1 for 800m, the last 600 in 40.6. She was another who impressed when winning at Last week’s Hastings jumpouts.

She’s Miss Gevious and Primed worked together over 800m in 55.2, the last 600 in 40 while Mr Bully Tee was kept under a good hold over 800m in 55.5, the last 600 in 40.3. He looks to be coming up well in a new campaign.

Karehana Bay, another who looks to have come back in great order after a spell, ended his work with 600m in 44.8.

A Time Test-Chic three-year-old filly in the Lowry stable worked on her own over 800m in 55.8, the last 600 in 41.5 while and Eminent three-year-old filly from the same stable clocked 54 for 800m, the last 600 in 39.9.

Flying Trapeze and an Embellish-Flare three-year-old gelding worked together over 800m in 58.2, the last 600 in 42.3. They also both performed with credit at last week’s Hastings jumpouts.
