Hastings Trackwork - Tuesday 27 July
John Jenkins | July 27, 2021

A quick 800 metre gallop by Veloce Sorella and sound workouts by Estefania and Magic Incanto were the highlights at this morning’s Hastings track session.

Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided good footing.

Veloce Sorella had probationary apprentice Lily Sutherland aboard when sprinting a solo 800m in 48.1. She ran the first 200m in 12.3s before coming home the last 600 in 35.8.

The Ghibellines three-year-old filly, trained by Vicki Wilson, has been disappointing in five starts to date but did win a 1400m jumpout at Hastings earlier this month.

Estefania was the first horse to gallop, working in from the 1000m peg before sprinting home up the straight. She could not be timed in the bad light but looked to be stretching out well at the finish and will probably head to Otaki this Saturday for a Rating 65 race over 1400m. Any rain will enhance her chances.

Magic Incanto also worked in at three-quarter pace from the 1000m peg and was only let stride out over the final 400m. She looked to be striding out well and is another likely starter at Otaki on Saturday.

Mohaka, in her first serious assignment since resuming from a spell, ran an easy 800m in 58.1, the last 600 in 42.9. She is getting ready for spring racing and will also be mated this year with Waikato Stud-based stallion Super Seth.

Overstayer, another being prepared for spring racing, worked in easily from the 1000m peg in 1:21.2, quickening slightly over the last 600 in 43.4. He looks in good order.

Matt Cain, another likely starter at Otaki on Saturday, clocked 54 for a solo 800m, the last 600 in 39.6 while a Savabeel-Eleonora two-year-old filly in the Lowry/Cullen stable ran an easy 800m in 56.6, the last 600 in 42.

Promising two-year-old Ivanka worked with Malania and they were only let stride out in the home straight when running 600m in 42.3.

Hanging Loose, prepared by Vicki Wilson, sprinted 600m in 37.2 while stablemate Mini Kay also sprinted a solo 600m in 36.7.

A big Turn Me Loose two-year-old gelding in the Lowry/Cullen stable worked easily over 800m in 57.5, the last 600 in 43 while a Shocking-Peritinette three-year-old gelding and one by Pins out of Alleyway ran 600m together in 40.8.
