Duncan Creek turned in a sharp 600m gallop at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session in preparation for Saturday’s Manawatu meeting.
Fast work was restricted to the plough (soft) but there was only three gallops timed as a number of horses from the centre were entered for heats at the Waipukurau jumpouts on Wednesday.
Duncan Creek worked in at half-pace from about the 1000m peg before sprinting home the last 600 in 36.3.
The Super Easy three-year-old was striding out freely at the finish and pulled up extra well after the workout.
Trainer Patrick Campbell thinks Duncan Creek didn’t quite see out the 1600m of the Group 1 Levin Classic at Trentham last start and so he will drop him back in distance to 1200m at Awapuni. Irish-born jockey Joe Doyle will again have the mount.
Campbell also intends running Hunta Pence at Awapuni this Saturday, where he will contest the Group 2 Awapuni Gold Cup (2000m) as a prelude to the Listed $100,000 Hawke’s Bay Cup (2200m) at Hastings on April 15.
Wewillrock, another horse down to start at Awapuni on Saturday, worked strongly in company with One Dream One Soul over 1000m in 1:03.2. They had the pace on all the way, running the first 400m in 25.8, before coming home the last 600 in 37.4.
Wewillrock will contest the Rating 75 race over 1200m at Awapuni while One Dream One Soul is likely to start next in the Group 3 Manawatu Breeders’ Stakes (2000m) at Awapuni on April 14.
Magic Incant, back in work with trainer Fred Pratt, ended two rounds of pacework with a 400m sprint up the straight in 27.9s.
