Hastings Trackwork - Tuesday 23 February
John Jenkins | February 23, 2021

Mohaka was the only horse to gallop at this morning’s Hastings track session and she stretched out well on her own.

There were not that many horses worked, with several having contested jumpouts held on the Hastings track yesterday.

Mohaka worked in from about the 900m mark on the plough and was timed to run home the last 800m in 52.1 and final 600 in 38.6.

The Nadeem mare has been freshened since finishing fifth in the Trentham Stakes (2100m) more than a month ago and looks in great order.

Co-trainer Guy Lowry said Mohaka is now being aimed at the Group 3 $70,000 Cuddle Stakes (1600m) at Trentham on March 20 and she will probably have a barrier trial before then.

Hunta Pence was given a couple of rounds of pacework on the plough and was keen to go a lot faster. He is another who has been freshened since last racing in the Trentham Stakes and trainer Patrick Campbell said he will resume in a 1400m open sprint at Hastings on Wednesday of next week as a lead up to the Group 2 $100,000 Awapuni Gold Cup (2000m) on April 3.
