Hastings Trackwork - Tuesday 15 February
John Jenkins | February 15, 2022

Promising two-year-old Best Seller turned in an impressive gallop at this morning’s Hastings track session as she prepares for the Group 2 $110,000 Matamata Breeders Stakes on Saturday week.

Fast work was carried out on the plough and close to the inside of the No.1 grass, with track conditions providing slow footing.

Best Seller finished clear of her stablemate Callsign Viper at the end of 1000m on the grass in 1:01.6, the last 600 in 36.4.

Best Seller has recorded two fourths from two starts but missed a start at the abandoned Taranaki meeting a fortnight ago so trainer John Bary has no option but to go straight into the Matamata Breeders Stakes with the filly not having raced since October last year.

Lilly Laguna was another of the John Bary team who worked well this morning when she and stablemate Ask Pa went together over 1000m in 1:01.1, the last 600 in 36.1. Both horses are entered for Sunday’s Wairoa meeting at Hastings with Lilly Laguna coming off a very unlucky last start seventh over 2200m at Trentham.

Love Letter, another entered for Hastings on Sunday, worked well with stablemate Herself over 1000m on the plough in 1:08.8, the last 600 in 40.1 with both horses looking to have plenty in reserve at the finish.

Love Letter was a game last start third in the Group 3 Desert Gold Stakes (1600m) at Trentham last start and will contest the Rating 65 race over 1600m on Sunday as a lead up to the Group 2 Lowland Stakes (2100m) at Hastings on March 2.

Korubela Miss, who was sixth in the Desert Gold Stakes at Trentham at the end of last month, worked with a Redwood two-year-old filly over 1000m on the grass in 1:03.2, the last 600 in 35.8.

No Time To Jazz ran a solo 1000m on the plough in 1:09, the last 600 in 39 while Red ‘N’ Surf also worked on his own when running 1000m on the plough in 1:08.8, the last 600 in 38.1.

Bold Iris and Kaluanui showed good speed when working together over 1000m on the grass in 1:01.5, the last 600 in 35.4. They are two others from the John Bary stable down to race at Sunday’s Wairoa meeting.

Matt Cain worked in easily from the 1000m peg in 1:10.1, quickening over the last 600 in 37.9 and is entered for the Rating 65 race over 1200m at Hastings on Sunday.

A Shocking four-year-old mare trained by Pam Holden clocked 51.2 for 800m on the plough, the last 600 in 37 while Candle worked in easily from the 800m peg in 56.6, quickening slightly over the last 400m in 28.7.

A Niagara two-year-old gelding worked in at three-quarter pace from the 1000m peg, quickening over the last 600 I 40.8 while a Wrote three-year-old filly ended her work with 600m in 40.6.
