Mohaka continued her preparation towards a start in next week’s Group 2 Auckland Cup with an easy workout at this morning’s Hastings track session.
Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided soft footing.
Mohaka worked early in the session over 800m and was timed to come home the last 600 in 41.5. She was a good last start third in the Avondale Cup (2400m) and her connections are keen to now try her over 3200m. Kate Hercock will retain the mount in the $500,000 Ellerslie feature.
Time honours for the session went to Tin Pan Alley and an Unusual Suspect three-year-old filly who sped over 600m in 36.6. Tin Pan Alley was a good second on debut over 1200m at Hastings on February 10 and is now under offer to an Australian buyer.
New Orleans Jazz, a Niagara two-year-old gelding trained by Dean Howard, worked well on his own over 800m in 52.7, the last 600 in 39 while Estefania was let off with an easy 800m in 57.8, the last 600 in 42.8. She looks well as she builds up towards another winter campaign.
Take Note, who is a Wrote three-year-old filly in Dean Howard’s stable, clocked 54.6 for an easy 800m, the last 600 in 39.1 while a Wrote two-year-old in the same stable ran 800m in 54.9, the last 600 in 39.9.
Serengeti and an Ocean Park three-year-old filly worked at three-quarter pace from the 1000m peg in 1:13.4, the last 600 in 42.8 while Freebee clocked 57 for an easy 800m, the last 600 in 42.2.
A Pins-Queen Aly three-year-old gelding in the Lowry/Cullen stable worked in at three-quarter pace from the 800m peg, running the last 600 in 44.9 while Succeeder and She’s A Dream underwent similar work, running their last 600m in 46.6.
Succeeder is a two-year-old filly by Savabeel out of Thee Achiever, making her a half-sister to the recent stakes placed filly Achieve while She’s A Dream is a two-year-old full-sister to the stakes winner Shezzacatch.
