Hastings Trackwork - Tuesday 8 March
John Jenkins | March 08, 2022

Mohaka continued her preparation towards Sunday’s $500,000 Auckland Cup with another solid workout at this morning’s Hastings track session.

Fast work was carried out on the plough (good) and wide out on the No.1 grass, which was very firm.

Mohaka started two lengths behind the maiden galloper Serengeti when they left the 1000m peg on the plough and was about a length in front at the finish. They were timed to run the full distance in 1:03.2 with Mohaka coming home the last 600m in 35.9s.

The Nadeem mare has trained on the right way since finishing third in the Avondale Cup (2400m) at Ellerslie on February 19 and Kate Hercock will again ride her in Sunday’s 3200m feature.

New Orleans Jazz, who could head to the Matamata meeting on Wednesday of next week, had trainer Dean Howard aboard when running a solo 800m in 51.5, the last 600 in 37.7. He is a Niagara two-year-old gelding who won a 750m jumpout at Hastings last week.

A Mongolian Khan three-year-old and a He’s Remarkable three-year-old, both trained by Vicki Wilson, worked together over 600m on the No.1 grass in 38.5s while a Mongolian Khan two-year-old filly from the same stable, ran 400m on the grass in 27.2.

Freebee had co-trainer Mick Brown aboard when running a solo 1000m in 1:08.6, the last 600 in 39.3 while a Wrote three-year-old filly in Dean Howard’s stable clocked 51.1 for 800m, the last 600 in 36.7.

A Mongolian Falcon two-year-old gelding was another from the Vicki Wilson stable who worked on the No.1 grass and he came home his last 400m in 27s.
