Hastings Trackwork - Tuesday 9 August
John Jenkins | August 09, 2022

A fast 600m sprint by the stablemates Red ‘N’ Surf and Jungle King and another sound workout from No Rock No Pop were the highlights of this morning’s Hastings track session.

Fast work was mainly confined to the plough which provided surprisingly good footing considering the amount of overnight rainfall.

Red ‘N’ Surf and Jungle King sprinted 600m on the plough in 35.8s, with both horses travelling strongly at the finish. Red ‘N’ Surf showed more like his true firm when a good second over 2200m at Hastings last start and could head to Tauranga this Saturday.

No Rock No Pop ran a solo 1000m in 1:03.9, running the first 400m in 26.9 before quickening over the last 600 in 37. The Rock ‘N’ Pop mare will be entered for the Rating 75 race over 1400m at Woodville this Friday but trainer Lee Somervell said she will only run if the track conditions are not too testing.

Master Brewer, another who could run at Woodville if track conditions suit, had co-trainer Mick Brown aboard when working in from the 1200m peg, running the last 1200 in 1:25.4 and final 600 in 37.6.

Tin Pan Alley and She’s Miss Gevious were the only horses timed on the heavy No.1 grass and sprinted their last 400m in 24s. Tin Pan Alley ruined her chances by being very slow away over1200m at Hastings last start, in what was her first start for five months.

Overstayer showed he is coming up well in a fresh campaign by sprinting home the last 600m of his work on the plough in 36.2. The big Zed gelding was a close second in a 750m jumpoiut at Hastings last Friday.

Briar, another who could start at Woodville this Friday, worked over a round and was timed to run the last 1200m in 1:23.7, the final 600 in 39.5 while Erebus was kept under a good hold over 1000m in 1:14.9.

Metallo had trainer Lucy de Lautour aboard when running an easy 1000m in 1:12.1, the last 600 in 38.9 while his stablemate Donardo was assigned three rounds of pacework.

Polizzi was kept under a hold when running 1000m in 1:14.3, the last 600 in 41.9 while Estefania ended her work with a 400m sprint up the straight.

Estefania bolted in by five lengths over 1200m at Hastings last start and is entered for another Rating 65 race over the same distance at Woodville this Friday.

The Mammoth looked keen to go a lot faster when running a solo 800m in 53.6, the last 600 in 39.7 while a Mongolian Khan four-year-old from the Thompson/Brown stable ran an easy 1000m in 1:14.1, the last 600 in 41.3.

A Redwood three-year-old in Vicki Wilson’s stable finished in front of a Mongolian Khan three-year-old at the end of 400m in 23.8 while Indulge Me worked over 1000m at three-quarter pace, the last 600 in 44.6.
