Fast work was confined to the plough which provided wet and slushy footing after 9 millimetres of rainfall overnight.
New Orleans Jazz finished clear of a three-year-old Echoes Of Heaven filly at the end of 1000m in 1:05.5, the last 600 in 37.9.
New Orleans Jazz hasn’t raced since finishing sixth in the Group 1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes in April but won a 750m jumpout at Hastings earlier this month and has followed that up with several good track gallops.
One Dream One Soul turned in one of the quickest gallops of the session when cutting out a solo 800m in 52.1, the last 600 in 36.8. The Ekraar mare was stakes placed last season and is likely to resume on the first day of the Hawke’s Bay spring carnival, on September 10.
Estefania, another likely starter at Awapuni this Saturday, relished the slushy track conditions when running a solo 1000m, the last 800 taking 50.9 and the final 600 in 37.6. She was forced to cover plenty of extra ground when seventh over 1200m at Woodville last start.
Last start winner She’s Miss Gevious worked with a Redwood three-year-old over 800m in 53, the last 600 in 38.4 with both horses working well at the finish.
Free Thyme had co-trainer Jordan Bassett aboard when working over 800m, the last 600 in 38.3 while Courvoisier ended her work with 600m in 38.9.
A Mongolian Khan four-year-old in the Thompson/Brown stable clocked 53.3 for 800m, the last 600 in 39.4 while his stablemate No Bid was kept to just three-quarter pace, running his last 600m in 45.2.
