Hastings Trackwork - Tuesday 30 August
John Jenkins | August 30, 2022

Shezzacatch, Love Letter, Duncan Creek and One Dream One Soul, four horses preparing for the first day of the Colliers Hawke’s Bay Spring Carnival on Saturday week, all turned in strong gallops at this morning’s Hastings track session.

Fast work was confined to the plough which provided wet and slushy conditions after another 4 millimetres of rain overnight. A total of 98 millimetres has fallen on the Hastings track in the past month.

Shezzacatch and Love Letter worked together over 800m in 52.1, running the first 200m in an easy 15.2 before coming home the last 600 in 36.9. They will both resume from a spell at Hastings, with Shezzacatch in a Rating 75 race over 1200m and Love Letter in a Rating 65 event over 1300m.

Duncan Creek looked to be doing better than No Time o Jazz at the end of their 1000m workout in 1:04.7. They went easily over the first 400m in 29.1 before coming the last 600 in a quick 35.6.

Duncan Creek will be entered for the Listed $80,000 El Roca-Sir Colin Meads Trophy (1200m) at Hastings.

One Dream One Soul worked on her own over 800m, running the first 200m in an easy 16s before quickening over the last 600 in 36.5. She has been freshened since finishing seventh over 1600m at Wanganui and could resume over either 1200m or 1400m at Hastings.

Written Up ran a solo 1000m in 1:08.1, the last 600 in 39.3 while Podium finished her work with 600m in 38.6. Both horses look in good order.

No Rock No Pop, another who looks to be coming up well again in a new preparation, worked well on her own over 800m in 51.1, the last 600 in 37.2 while the talented Wewillrock was let off with just 800m at three-quarter pace, the last 600 taking 42.8.

The jumper Donardo was given three rounds of pacework, quickening over the last 1000m on the final round and running home the final 600m in 39.2. He will now contest next Sunday’s Pakuranga Hunt Cup Steeplechase (4800m) at Te Rapa.

Succeeder and a Mongolian Khan four-year-old mare worked nicely together over 800m in 53.1, the last 600 in 38.2 while Celtic Jazz was not hurried when running 1000m in 1:13, the last 600 in 40.6.

A Hellbent three-year-old and one by Mongolian Khan, both in the Thompson/Brown stable, worked together over 600m in 38.6 while Free Thyme worked in easily from the 1000m peg on his own, the last 800 taking 57.9 and final 600 in 43.7.

Matello had trainer Lucy de Lautour aboard when running 1000m in 1:10.8, the last 600 in 40 while Heartstopper and a Mongolian Khan four-year-old clocked 54.1 for an easy 800m, the last 400 in 26.1.
