Last start winners Estefania and Master Brewer coped well with the wet and slushy track conditions when they both turned in good solo gallops at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session.
Fast work was mainly confined to the plough, with just one horse worked about 20 metres out on the course proper. Both tracks provided heavy footing after 31 millimetres of rain since Sunday.
Estefania had co-trainer Jordan Bassett aboard when running a solo 1000m on the plough in 1:04.5, running the first 400m in 28 before sprinting home the last 600 in 36.5. She relishes heavy track conditions and will be entered for the Rating 75 race over 1400m at Saturday’s first day of the Colliers Hawke’s Bay spring carnival.
Master Brewer had his co-trainer Mick Brown aboard when he worked over a round on the plough, the last 1200m taking 1:21.1 and the final 600 in 36.4. The Playmaker gelding was a good winner over 1800m at Taupo and will either contest the Rating 65 race over 1600m at Hastings this Saturday or head back to Taupo for another 1800m event on September 16.
Best Seller, another last start winner and entered for Saturday’s Group 3 Gold Trail Stakes, worked with stablemate Te Awa Bay over 1000m in 1:05.3, the first 400m taking 29s and the last 600 in 36.3. It was good work from the maiden galloper Te Awa Bay who was an unlucky seventh over 1200m at Te Rapa last start.
Eparaima was the only horse to work on the course proper and she looked to have plenty in reserve at the end of 1000m in 1:07.8, the last 600 in 38.2. She is likely to make her race debut in the Listed El Roca-Sir Colin Meads Trophy (1200m) at Hastings on Saturday.
Spring Tide, a likely starter in Saturday’s Group 1 Tarzino Trophy (1400m), worked with stablemate Blissful Belle over 1000m on the plough in 1:01.4, the last 600 in 35.5 while Lily Laguna and Bold Iris, two others from the John Bary stable, worked together over 1000m in 1:03.8, the last 600 in 35.6.
Written Up was another who worked well on his own when running 1000m in 1:04.9, the last 600 in 37.5. He was a good debut second over 800m at Hastings in July and has trained on the right way since.
She’s So Reliable, another from the John Bary stable, worked over a round on her own and was timed to run the last 1200m in 1:19.7, the last 600 in 38. She was a winner over2200m at Hastings two starts back and followed that up with a fifth over 2100m at Te Rapa.
One Dream One Soul, who could start in the Rating 75 race over 1200m at Hastings on Saturday, worked in easily from the 800m peg in 53.3 before quickening over the last 600 in 38.6. She looks to be coming up well in a fresh campaign.
No Time To Jazz clocked 1:09.9 for her solo 1000m workout. She was kept under a good hold over the first 400m in 32.8 before quickening over the last 600 in 37.1.
No Rock No Pop was not extended when running 1200m on her own in 1:28.3, the last 600 in 37.4 while Polar Blast worked over 1000m and was timed to run the last 600 in 37.9.
Secret Falls relished the wet conditions when galloping strongly over 800m in 50.9, the last 600 in 36.8 while Checkpoint Charley ran a solo 1000m in 1:04.1, the last 600 in 36.9.
