Spring Tide, preparing for Saturday’s Group 1 Arrowfield Stud Plate on his home track, hit out strongly when working in company at this morning’s Hastings track session.
Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided surprisingly good footing after all the rain that has fallen on the track in the past 10 days.
A penetrometer reading was taken on the course proper during the session and came up as a heavy9, with more rain forecast for late this week and over the weekend.
Spring Tide worked with Blissful Belle over 1200m in 1:15.8, running the first 600 in an easy 39.6 before speeding up over the last 600 in 36.2.
Spring Tide was a game second behind Dark Destroyer in the Group 1 Tarzino Trophy (1400m) on the first day of the Colliers Hawke’s Bay Spring Carnival and will step up to 1600m on Saturday. Any more rain will not hinder his chances.
Blissful Belle covered a huge amount of extra ground when unplaced over 1200m at Hastings last start and that run is best overlooked.
Best Seller, a leading chance for Saturday’s AHD Hawke’s Bay Guineas (1400m) was another who showed up well in trackwork this morning when she worked with Te Awa Bay over 1200m. They went a leisurely 46.3s for the first 600m but then sprinted quickly over the final 600 in 35.1. Best Seller has obviously trained on the right way since winning the Gold Trail Stakes on the first day of the Hawke’s Bay carnival.
The stablemates No Time To Jazz and Secret Falls worked in easily from the 1200m peg before quickening to run the last 1000m in 1:02.2, the final 600 in 35.9. Secret Falls is entered for Hastings on Saturday and deserves to break through for a maiden win.
One Dream One Soul, who lines up in the Rating 75 race over 1600m at Hastings, clocked 1:19.1 for a solo 1200m, the last 600 in 36.1. She made up a huge amount of ground for fifth over 1200m at Hastings last start.
Gohugo and Heartstopper, two horses in Guy Lowry’s stable, worked together over 1000m in 1:05.9, the last 600 in 37.6 while Celtic Jazz finished in front of stablemate New Orleans Jazz at the end of 1000m in 1:03.6, the last 600 in 37.6.
Celtic Jazz could race at either Otaki this Thursday or Taupo next week while New Orleans Jazz will be entered for Hastings on Saturday.
No Rock No Pop, preparing for the Open 1300m race at Hastings on Saturday, clocked 1:04.3 for a solo 1000m, the last 600 in 38.2. Any further rain will not hinder her chances.
Sequoia Star and Swazi, two others in the John Bary stable, were timed to run home the last 1000m of their work in 1:03.4, the last 600 in 36.9. Sequoia Star was a game last start second at Taupo after being caught three-wide for most of the race.

She’s Miss Gevious had trainer Fred Pratt aboard when running the last 600m of her work in 38.6 while Can I Get An Amen ran an easy 800m in 57.3, the last 600 in 41.7. She looks to be coming up well in a fresh campaign.
Indulge Me, who could start at Otaki this Thursday, ran a solo 1000m in 1:07.3, the last 600 in 37.6 while Matinee worked in easily from the 1000m peg in 1:12, quickening over the last 600 in 38.9.
Free Bee worked in from the 800m peg on her own and was timed to run the last 600 in 38.8 while Courvoisier and a Tarzino three-year-old filly sped over 600m together in 36.5. Courvoisier disappointed on debut over 1200m at Taupo two weeks ago but was found to be suffering from a minor hood problem.

A Complacent filly in Fred Pratt’s stable sprinted the last 600m of her work in 36.7 while The Mammoth worked over 1000m in 1:10, the last 600 in 38.
