Stablemates Spring Tide and Best Seller confirmed their readiness for major assignments at Matamata this Saturday with strong gallops at Tuesday’s Hastings trackwork session.
Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided reasonably good footing.
Spring Tide finished ahead of stablemate Swazi after they worked in from the 1200m peg, quickening over the last 1000m in 1:01.7 and final 600 in 35s.
Spring Tide has continued to train on well since finishing a game second in the Tarzino Trophy (1400m) on the first day of the Hawke’s Bay spring carnival. Jonathan Riddell has again been booked to ride the horse in Saturday’s Group 1 Arrowfield Stud Plate (1600m).
Best Seller and Te Awa Bay, both entered for Saturday’s Group 2 AHD Hawke’s Bay Guineas (1400m), worked together from the 1200m peg and were timed to run home their last 1000m in 1:02.3, the final 600 in 35s.
Sam Spratt will again partner Best Seller while Jonathan Riddell is booked for Te Awa Bay.
Written Up, who may head to Hawera on Saturday for the three-year-old 1200m race, was another who hit out well this morning when running a solo 1000m in 1:05.4, the last 600 in 37.2. He did not get much luck in the running when unplaced in the Listed 1200m race on the first day of the Hawke’s Bay spring carnival.
Overstayer worked over a round on his own and was timed to run home the last 1200m in 1:16.9 and final 600 in 36.9. He looks to be coming up well but needs a reasonably firm track to show his best.
Sequoia Star and Chance, two others from the John Bary stable, worked together over 1000m in 1:07.4, the last 600 in 37.5. Sequoia Star was a good last start second over 1200m at Taupo and is another of the John Bary team heading to Matamata this Saturday.
Checkpoint Charlie and No Bid, both in the Thompson/Brown stable, clocked 1:04.7 for 1000m, the last 600 in 36.1 while Celtic Jazz ran 1000m on his own in 1:028, the last 600 in 36.5.
A Complacent three-year-old and a Wrote three-year-old, two others in the Thompson/Brown stable, recorded 1:05.9 for their 1000m workout, running the first 400m in an easy 30.1 before quickening over the last 600 in 35.8.
She’s Miss Gevious had trainer Fred Pratt aboard when sprinting 600m in 36.9 while stablemate Tin Pan Alley also sprinted a solo 600m in 37.4.
New Orleans Jazz worked in from the 1000m peg and was timed to run home the last 600 in 38.1s. Trainer Dean Howard has decided to bypass this Saturday’s Hawke’s Bay Guineas with the horse and will run him at Hastings the following Saturday.
A Tivaci two-year-old filly and one by Almanzor, both in the John Bary stable, worked together over 800m in 55.9, the last 600 in 40.1 while Maria Dior was let off with an easy 800m, the lasty 600 in 43.8.
Free Bee had co-trainer Mick Brown aboard when running an easy 1000m in 1:13.3, the last 600 in 41.2.
