Hastings Trackwork - Tuesday 11 October
John Jenkins | October 11, 2022

Strong 1000m gallops by Blissful Babe, Bold Iris, Duncan Creek and Moonlight Hussler were among the highlights in a busy trackwork session at Hastings today.

Most fast work was confined to the plough which was conducive to fast times.

Two horses from the Guy Lowry stable, Can I Get An Amen and Podium, were allowed to work up against the running rail on the course proper and clocked 1:07.1 for 1000m, the last 600 in 36.8.

A penetrometer reading was then taken on the course proper and came up as a soft-6.

Blissful Belle and Bold Iris, two horses from the John Bary stable, worked in from the 1000m peg in 1:05.9, sprinting home the last 600 in 35.4. They are both entered for Saturday’s Hawke’s Bay meeting.

Duncan Creek, who will line up in the three-year-old race over 1300m at Hastings on Saturday, was travelling keenly alongside Moonlight Hussler at the end of 1000m in 1:02.3, the last 600 in 35.5. It was excellent work from both horses.

No Rock No Pop, who will contest either the Rating 75 1400 or the Group 3 sprint over the same distance on Saturday, ran a solo 1000m in 1:02.3, the last 600 in 38.1 while No Time To Jazz and Secret Falls clocked 1:05.5 for their 1000m gallop, the last 600 in 35.9. They are also both entered for Saturday’s Hawke’s Bay meeting.

The Kirsty Lawrence-trained pair of Real Slim Tradie and Pep Torque worked together over 1000m in 1:05.1, the last 600 in 36.8.

Real Slim Tradie will be entered for the Rating 74 race over 1200m at Hastings while Pep Torque will head to Rotorua on Sunday for the Listed Stephanos Classic (1950m), a race he finished fourth in last year.

Herself, who tackles the Rating 75 race over 2000m at Hastings, worked on her own over 1000m in 1:08.2, running the first 400m at three-quarter pace before quickening over the last 600 in 37.1. She looks to have trained on well since her last start win.

Shezzacatch showed she is ready to resume in the Rating 75 race over 1200m at Hastings, by running 1000m in 1:08, the first 400 in an easy 31.3 before sprinting home the last 600 in 36.7. Lisa Allpress has been booked to ride her.

Celtic Jazz, with a weight advantage, finished ahead of stablemate New Orleans Jazz at the end of 1000m, the last 800 taking 50.8 and final 600 in 38.1 while Oxygen looked to be working well at the end of a solo 1000m in 1:03.9, the last 600 in 35.8.

The John Bary-trained pair of She’s So Reliable and Lavita Vishvi worked over a round and were timed to run home the last 1200m in 1:19.5, the final 600 in 37s. They are both entered for Hastings on Saturday.

Gohugo and Heartstopper were timed to run 1000m together in 1:11.9, the last 600 in 36.7 while Karehana Bay and Come On Eileen clocked 51.3 for 800m, the last 600 in 36.6.

Gunagetyabeans, who heads to the Cambridge synthetic track this Friday, worked easily over 800m on his own in 56.7, the last 600 in 40.2 while stablemate Chance, entered for Woodville on Thursday, sprinted 600m in 37.1.

A Complacent three-year-old and a Wrote three-year-old, both in the Thompson/Brown stable, showed good speed over 1000m in 1:01.2, the last 600 in 35.3 while their stablemate Melainia went well on her own over 1000m in 1:02.6, the last 600 in 36.6.

A Mongolian Khan four-year-old and a Vespa four-year-old, two others in the Thompson/Brown stable, worked in from the 1000m peg in 1:07.5, running the first 400 in an easy 31.1 before quickening over the last 600 in 36.4.

Cheney and Courvoisier, both in the Lee Somervell stable, worked together over 1000m in 1:11.2, the last 600 in 37.8 While Free Bee looked to be working well at the end of 1000m in 1:07.6, the last 600 in 36.8.

O’Reilly’s Jazz was not hurried when running 600m in 39.6 while Maria Dior underwent similar work, running her 600m in 43.9.
