Nice wins by Blissful Belle, Makkaldee, Uncle Barry and a Castelvecchio two-year-old colt were among the highlights at today’s Hastings jumpouts.

There were 10 heats run up against the running rail on the course proper, where the ground was rated good.

Blissful Belle won the last heat over 1000m, beating stablemate Rockburn by three-quarters of a length, with Free Bee weakening a shade late to finish half a length back in third. Blissful Belle’s winning time was 60.40s.

Makkaldee only had two opponents in his 1000m heat and wasn’t pressured by rider Kate Hercock when winning by a long head in a time of 1:01.06. The big Jakkalberry gelding hasn’t raced since finishing second over 2100m at Woodville in April but looks to have come back in great order.

Uncle Barry clocked a good time of 60.52s when winning his 1000m maiden heat by a neck from the more experienced Debby Harri. Uncle Barry is a Tivaci three-year-old in the Guy Lowry and Leah Zydenbos stable who has won two barrier trials and could make his race debut over 1000m at Tauherenikau on November 10.

The Mick Brown and Sue Thompson stable produced a promising Castelvecchio two-year-old colt who scored an impressive length win in an 800m heat without being pressured.

He is a half-brother to Lady In Pink, the winner of last Saturday’s Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield. Both are out of the Encosta de Lago mare Iron Lace.
