TRACKWORK | 1 SEP 2026

Horses from the Thompson/Brown stable took centre stage in a quiet trackwork session at Hastings today.

There were very few horses in attendance, with the Lowry/Zydenbos stable having taken a big team to the day’s Foxton trials.

Fast work was confined to the plough which provided deep footing.

Creation, trained by Mick Brown and Sue Thompson, stretched out well when running a solo 1000m in 1:07.5, the last 600 in 38.5.

The Dundeel five-year-old has not raced since May but has been getting through good work on the Hastings track. He will have a jumpout at Waipukurau next Tuesday and may resume racing on the second day of the Hawke’s Bay Spring Carnival, on September 26.

Sicarius, preparing for Sunday’s Woodville meeting, took the time horse for the session when running 1000m in 1:05.2, the last 600 in 36.8. He went an improved race for fifth over 1600m at Hastings on August 22 and will race over the same distance at Woodville.

Exit Left worked in easily from the 1000m peg in 1:09.5, running the first 400m in 29.1 before coming home the last 600 in 40.7. He needed the run and was racing over an unsuitable distance when sixth over 1200m at Hastings on August 22. He is likely to be stepped up to 1600m on the first day of the Hawke’s Bay Spring carnival on Saturday week.

Adira’s Way had trainer Catlin Johnson aboard when undertaking two 400m sprints, the first in 29.1 and the second in 27.8.

Bussy Bee and Mount Cook, two others in the Thompson/Brown stable, worked well together over 1000m in 1:07.4, the last 600 in 38 and they are two others likely to have a jumpout at Waipukurau next Tuesday.

Prestissimo was given two 400m runs on the plough, running the first one at three-quarter opaque before quickening over the second one in 26.1. Co-trainer Jordan Bassett said they are finding it hard to get a suitable Rating 5 race over 1400m for the mare.

Half Share and an Exceedance three-year-old gelding, two others in the Thompson/Brown stable, clocked 54.9 for an easy 800.

Dolce Browne and Danger also clocked 43.1 for an easy 600m.
