Poukawa, preparing for Sunday’s Waipukurau meeting, stretched out well when galloping in company at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session.

Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided good footing.

Poukawa looked to have plenty in reserve when working with stablemate Magill over 800m in 53.8, the last 600 in 38.3.

Poukawa resumed from a spell with a close second over 1400m at Tauherenikau two weeks ago and looks to have trained on well since. He will contest the Rating 65 race over 1400m at Waipukurau with in-form jockey Bruno Queiroz booked to ride him again.

Say I Do was another who stretched out well when running a solo 800m in 50.6, the last 600 in 36.3. She was ridden in front when fresh up in a Rating 65 race over 1300m at Woodville and weakened over the final stages. She will drop back to Rating 60 grade over 1200m at Waipukurau.

Tulsa King and Flying Angel were two others to record a quick time when running 1000m together in 1:02.6, the last 600 in 36.3. Trainer Aaron Bidlake is looking for a wet track for Tulsa King and the horse will either start at Waipukurau or Rotorua this Sunday.

Duncan Creek, who contests the Waipukurau Cup (2100m) on Sunday, worked nicely on his own over 1000m in 1:02.9, the last 600 in 37.8. He won over 2050m at Wanganui earlier this year.

Fancy Like Lass was given an easy 800m workout, clocking 57.9 and 42.1 for the last 600. She is entered for the Open 1200m sprint at Waverley on Friday.

Her stablemate Mount Cook also had an easy workout, running home his last 600 in 44. He finished a close third in a 1050m trial at Woodville last week and is entered for the three-year-old 1400m race at Waverley.

Portersway and Vincero, two likely starters at Waipukurau on Sunday, worked nicely together over 800m in 52.3, the last 600 in 37.5 while La Dulcin’ee worked keenly over 800m in 51.7, the last 600 in 36.8. She lost a plate in the running and pulled up lame when resuming from a spell over 1215m at Rotorua last month but looks to be back to full fitness. She is likely to race next in a Rating 65 race over 1200m at Wanganui on November 22.

Written Up, another likely runner at Waipukurau, ran a solo 1000m in 1:06.8, the last 600 in 38 while Justadude also worked on his own over 1000m in 1:03.8, the last 600 in 37. He will also be entered for Waipukurau on Sunday although he may head to Rotorua if track conditions suit.

Ocean Beau and a So You Think three-year-old, both in the Thompson/Brown stable, ended their work with an easy 600m in 42.1 while Sea Star Win and a Sneaking To Win three-year-old filly worked easily together over 600m in 42.
