Testwin, a likely starter at Taupo on Sunday, worked strongly in company at today’s Hastings trackwork session.
Fast work was conducted on the plough (soft) and wide out on the No.1 grass (firm).
Testwin worked with Hollywood Drift over 1000m on the grass in 1:05.2, the last 600 in 36.2, with both horses striding out well at the finish.
Testwin hasn’t raced since November last year but finished fourth in a 1000m trial at Foxton last month, while Hollywood Drift finished fourth in an 850m Foxton trial last week.
Exit Left and Meritable, two horses headed to Sunday’s Woodville meeting, worked over 1000m on the plough. Meritable was eased down over the final stages of the gallop as his rider thought he had a gear problem but Exit Left was timed to run the 1000m in 1:03.8, the last 600 in 38.9.
Exit Left is a past winner on the Woodville track and will contest the Rating 65 race over 1400m there on Sunday while Meritable will run in the Open 1200m event.
Mount Cook and Celebrity, two others from the Thompson/Brown stable, worked over 1000m in 1:09.4, the last 600 in 39. They were both winners at last week’s Foxton trials and show plenty of potential.
Meltemi, another who won a trial at Foxton last week, ran a solo 1000m on the plough in 1:05, the last 600 in 37.5. She may go to Taupo on Sunday for a maiden 1000m race.
Swifty, a promising filly by Shalaa trained by Aaron Bidlake, looked to have plenty in reserve when running a solo 800m in 54.8, the last 600 in 40. She is likely to have a run at the Foxton trials next Tuesday.
The well performed Bedtime Story, back in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable, was given an easy 800m on the plough in 59.3, the last 600 in 44.6 while Poukawa, another who has returned to the same stable, ran an easy 800m in 54.3, the last 600 in 41.1.
Prestissimo was not doing much more than three-quarter pace over 1000m, the last 600 in 43.3 and she is another who is likely to head to the Foxton trials next Tuesday.
Basil The Greek ran a solo 800m in 54, the last 600 in 39.9 while a Ferrando three-year-old gelding trained by Patrick Campbell ended his work with 600m in 40.3. He is a half-brother to Duncan Creek.
Touch O’Paradise ended three rounds of good work with the last 600 in 44.7. He may line up in the maiden hurdle race at Woodville on Sunday.
