A solid hit out by last start winner Say I Do was the highlight in a relatively quiet trackwork session at Hastings today.
Fast work was confined to the plough, with most horses restricted to just three-quarter pace.
Say I Do was one horse who turned in a solid gallop, working in from the 1200m peg on her own in 1:16.8. She clocked 40.3 for the first 600m before coming home strongly over the last 600 in a quick 36.5s.
The Pierro mare has obviously trained on the right way since winning over 1600m at Wanganui on April 6 and will probably be stepped up to 2040m there this Saturday, providing the track is not too heavy. Mereana Hudson has been booked to ride her again.
Her stablemate La Dulcin’ee is another who will be entered for the Wanganui meeting, where she will probably contest the Rating 65 race over 1340m. She worked easily over 1000m on her own, clocking 55.8 for the last 800m and 39.8 for the final 600. She has a great record on the Wanganui track and Leah Hemi will ride her again.
Justadude, another likely starter at Wanganui, worked in from the 1200m peg on his own and was timed to run the last 1000m in 1:11.2, the final 600 in 41. He will be entered for the maiden 1340m race.
Jim Dandy had trainer Caitlin Johnson aboard when running 800m in 56.4, the last 600 in 40.2 while Double Shot ended her work with 600m in 41.6.
Sea Star Win was another restricted to an easy 600m and recorded 41.2 while Exit Left was kept to just half-pace over two rounds on the plough. He is likely to start next at Otaki on April 24.
