There was little in the way of fast work again at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session, with most horses restricted to just pacework.
Meritable had co-trainer Mick Brown aboard when working in at three-quarter pace on the plough in 55.2, quickening slightly over the last 600 in 40.1. The Snitzel six-year-old has been given a brief freshen up since finishing fourth in a 1400m open sprint at Ellerslie on June 7 and will have a run at the next set of Foxton trials.
Mount Cook and Celebrity, two others in the Thompson/Brown stable, worked over an easy 1000m together and quickened slightly over the last 600 in 40.8. Mount Cook is a promising two-year-old colt by Castelvecchio who finished second in an 850m Woodville trial back in December.
Portersway clocked 1:09.4 for a solo 1000m, the last 600 in 40.5 while his stablemate Vaporize also worked easily over 1000m, the last 800 in 58.2 and final 600 in 42.7.
Briar, who lines up in a 2140m race on the Awapuni synthetic track on Thursday, was let sprint home the last 400m of her work in 24.5.
Father Ted and Prestissimo worked together over 800m at three-quarter pace, the last 600 in 44.6 while Media Puppet and a Hello Youmzain two-year-old gelding ran the last 600m of their work in 43.5.
