Impressive last start winner Zorero and his stablemate Gohugo stretched out well in a 100m gallop at today’s Hastings trackwork session as they prepared for Saturday’s Wellington meeting.
Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided heavy footing.
Zorero and Go Hugo worked in from the 1000m peg in 1:08.5, quickening as they went to come home the last 800 in 52.5 and final 600 in 38.4.
Zorero left a big impression when winning on debut over 1200m at Waipukurau on November 16 and will now line up in the $40,000 three-year-old race over 1200m at Trentham on Saturday.
Gohugo hasn’t raced since August but has had two recent barrier trials, winning over 1000m at Woodville at the start of this month. He will contest the Rating 75 race over 1200m at Trentham.
Magill, who could line up in the Group 2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes (1200m) at Trentham, was working well alongside Harlem County at the end of 800m in 53.1, the last 600 in 39.1.
Magill was unplaced on debut at Trentham in October but has since been gelded and has shown improvement with two good placings in barrier trials, the most recent being a second over 850m at Woodville.
Sea Star Win worked in from the 1000m peg on her own in 1:09.2, running the first 400m in 30.5 before quickening over the last 600 in 38.7. She has recorded two fourth placings from two starts and will contest the Maiden 1200m race at Otaki on Friday.
Written Up, another likely starter at Otaki, ran a solo 1000m in 1:06.5, the last 600 in 39.2 while Father Ted was let off with an easy 800m in 56.9, the last 600 in 40.7.
Media Puppet and World Wide, both in the Thompson/Brown stable, worked together over 1000m in 1:10.7, the last 600 in 39.4 while Hard Work and a Turn Me Loose three-year-old gelding worked over 1200m together in 1:26, running the first 600m in an easy 46.4 before coming home the last 600 in 39.6.
Tulsa King was let off with just pacework on the plough. He looks to have trained on well since finishing an unlucky second in the Group 3 Wellington Stakes (1600m) at Otaki on November 30 and is likely to start next in a Rating 65 race over 1560m at Rotorua on December 27.
