TRACKWORK | 16 JAN 2024

Eparaima and Bedtime Story, two horses from the Lowry/Zydenbos entered for Trentham on Saturday, were the only horses to work at speed at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session.

The pair went out on the plough, which was slushy after 20 millimetres of rainfall overnight.

Eparaima and Bedtime Story worked in from the 1000m peg and were timed to sprint home the last 800m in 49.1 and final 400m in 27.8.

Eparaima was unsuited by the heavy track conditions when finishing fifth over 1400m at Hastings last start and had recorded two good third placings before that. She will contest the Rating 65 race over 1400m at Saturday’s Wellington Cup meeting.

Bedtime Story has won her last two starts in impressive style, the most recent on the Trentham track. She will line up in the three-year-old set weights and penalties race over 1200m there on Saturday.

Candle was the only other horse from the Lowry/Zydenbos stable to work and she was kept to just three-quarter pace over 1000m. She is a likely starter on the third day of the Wellington Cup meeting, on Saturday week.

Fancy Like Lass was to gallop over 1000m in preparation for the Rating 75 race over 1000m at Trentham on Saturday but co-trainer Sue Thompson decided to just give her two rounds of pacework because of the testing track conditions. The mare was to have her final bit of fast work on Wednesday instead.

Carbon Credit was the only other horse timed during the session and ran home his last 600m in an easy 45.3.
