TRACKWORK | 16 SEPTEMBER 2025
John Jenkins | September 16, 2025

Good workouts by Meritable and Meltemi were among the highlights at today’s Hastings trackwork session.

Fast work was conducted on the No.1 grass and plough, both tracks providing good footing.

Meritable had co-trainer Mick Brown aboard when working in from the 1000m peg on the grass and steadily increased the speed as he went, coming home the last 600 in 37.5. The Snitzel seven-year-old was stretching out well at the finish and will head to Trentham this Saturday for the Open 1200m sprint, with Kate Hercock booked to ride him.

Meltemi also worked on the grass and galloped a solo 1000m in 1:04.4, coming home the last 600 in a quick 35.3. She could contest the maiden race at Trentham this Saturday, providing track conditions are not too testing.

Impressive last start winner Testwin was let off with not much more than three-quarter pace in his 1000m workout on the grass, clocking 1:11.8 and coming home the last 600 in 41.7. He has trained on well since winning two races over 1200m and could be stepped up slightly in distance in a Rating 75 race over 1400m at Trentham this Saturday.

Exit Left, another likely starter at Trentham, worked on his own over 1000m on the grass in 1:06.5, the last 600 in 37.2. He could start in either the Rating 65 race over 1600m or the Rating 75 event over 1400m, depending on how heavy the track is.

Prestissimo, who will contest the Rating 65 race over 1200m at Trentham, also worked over 1000m on the grass and clocked 1:08.9, the last 600 in 36.2. She won her maiden race on a heavy10 track at Tauherenikau.

Vincero and Porters Way worked together over 1000m on the plough in 50.4, the last 600 in 36.8. Vincero is a three-year-old gelding by Puccini trained by Aaron Bidlake while Porters Way is in the sabe of Dean Howard.

Nightowl clocked 57.3 for an easy 800m on the grass, the last 600 in 41.8 while Waft was kept to not much more than three-quarter pace when running 800m on the plough in 58.1, the last 600 in 42.7.

Double Shot worked over 1000m on the lough in 1:12.8, the last 600 in 40.8 while Asha recorded 57.6 for 800m on the same track, the last 600 in 42.7. They are both in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable.

Kalledu Thunder ended his work with an easy 600m in 45.3 while Not A Doubt ran 800m in 59.3, the last 600 in 44. They are two others in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable.

A Turn Me Loose three-year-old filly from the same stable clocked 58 for 800m, the last 600 in 41.6 while Hollywood Drift ran a solo 800m in 59.4, the last 600 in 44.4.
