Talented mare Fancy Like Lass, preparing for the 1200m open sprint at Otaki on Saturday, took the time honours at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session.
There was not a lot of fast work, with most horses restricted to just three-quarter pace on the plough.
Fancy Like Lass had co-trainer Mick Brown aboard when working in from the 1000m peg. She started to on the pace over the last 800m in 53.4, coming home strongly over the final 600 in 37.6.
The Hellbent mare has not raced since finishing second over 1100m at Trentham on January 11 but has been ticking over nicely in training and has a good record fresh up.
Candle worked early in the session and was one of a number of horses restricted to just three-quarter pace when running 800m. She is likely to start next at Trentham in early March.
Waft, one of several horses in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable going to the Waipukurau trials next Tuesday, ended her work with 600m in 40.3. She looks to be coming up well in a fresh campaign.
Vaporize worked in at three-quarter pace from the 800m and steadily increased the speed, running the last 600 in 41.9 and final 400m in 27.1. She is a Vadamos filly who hasn’t raced since November last year.
Poukawa, back in work after a spell and looking in good order, was given two easy 400m runs on the plough, the second talking 28.7. He showed plenty of potential last campaign.
Meritable worked nicely over 800m in 56.1, the last 600 in 39.8. He is a six-year-old by Snitzel, who was runner-up in the Group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) as a three-year-old and is now in the stable of Mick Brown and Sue Thompson.
Nozumi, entered for the maiden 1600m race at Wanganui this Friday, was given an easy 600m in 42.8 while Creation ran a solo 800m in 56, the last 600 in 40.4.
Mount Cook, a promising Castelvecchio two-year-old in the Thompson/Brown stable, worked with a Time Test two-year-old over 600m in 39 while Agent Orange finished his work with 600m in 40.2.
Pelmanist and an All Too Hard two-year-old gelding, both in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable, worked in from the 800m peg in 58.6, quickening slightly over the last 600 in 41.9 while Hello Hero ended his work with an easy 600m in 43.2.
