Zappa Jak showed he has trained on the right way since his last start third with a good solo gallop at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session.

Fast work was confined to the plough, which was in good order.

Zappa Jak had jockey Kate Hercock aboard when running 1000m on his own in 1:08.1, the last 600 in 38.7.

Trainer Kirsty Lawrence was pleased with the work, saying the Jakkalberry gelding never excels in trackwork, especially when working on his own. He will contest the Rating 75 race over 2140m on the Awapuni synthetic track this Friday with apprentice Toni Davies to ride.

Wewillrock rounded off his preparation for Saturday’s Group 2 Foxbridge Plate at Te Rapa with a solo 1000m in 1:01, running the first 400m in a quick 23.1 before slowing slightly over the last 600 in 37.9.

Co-trainer Guy Lowry is happy with the horse going into Saturday’s 1200m feature, where Jonathan Riddell has been booked to ride him.

His stablemate Eyegeegee stretched out well when working over a round and was timed to come home the last 1200m in 1:20.5 and final 600 in 37.5. He also heads to Te Rapa this Saturday where he will contest the Rating 75 race over 1500m. Craig Grylls has been booked to ride him.

Fonsi ended his work with a sharp 600m sprint in 38.2. He looks to be coming up well in a new preparation and heads to the Foxton trials this Thursday.

His stablemate Bahia Emerald worked in at three-quarter pace from the 800m, quickening slightly over the last 600 in 39.3. She will also have a trial at Foxton this Thursday.

Testwin was not hurried when running a solo 1000m in 1:12.4, the last 600 in 40.6. He was impressive when winning a 1000m jumpout at Hastings last week and should be ready to kick off a fresh campaign on the first day of the Hawke’s Bay Spring Carnival.

Matinee clocked 1:08.7 when running 1000m on her own, the last 600 in 38.5 while Waft worked in at three-quarter pace from the 800m, running home the last 600 in 43.6.

Zarabella and a Super Easy gelding, both trained by Danny Champion, worked together over 1000m in 1:08.7, the last 600 in 39.8 while a Savabeel-Slimline three-year-old filly in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable ended her work with 600m in 41.5.

Little Miss Muffet and a Ghibellines four-year-old gelding, two others trained by Danny Champion, clocked 1:09.1 for 1000m, the last 600 in 39.1.
