Meltemi, preparing for Saturday’s Wanganui meeting, was working strongly at the end of a solo gallop at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session.
Fast work was confined to the plough which provided good footing.
Not many horses galloped as several trainers had horses entered for the Waipukurau jumpouts later in the day.
Meltemi had co-trainer Jordan Bassett aboard when working in from the 1000m peg in 1:09.5. The Darci Brahma filly ran the first 400m in an easy 32.8 before quickening appreciably over the last 600 in 36.7.
Meltemi was a game debut second over 1200m at Otaki on January 6 and will contest a maiden 1200m race at Wanganui.
Last start winner The Stoney One was another who worked well when running 800m in 53.8, quickening over he last 600 in 38.8. He will contest the Open 1200m sprint at Wanganui on Saturday.
Wild Thyme was not hurried when running a solo 1000m in 1:11.2, the last 600 in 40.9 while stablemate Prestissimo was also kept under a good hold when running 1000m in 1:13.3, the last 600 in 42.9.
