Meritable took the time honours in another quiet Hastings trackwork session today, running a solid 1000 metre gallop on his own.

Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided good footing.

The Lowry/Zydenbos stable had no horses at the track as they took two truck loads to the Levin jumpouts while Patrick Campbell took his horses to Waipukurau for a gallop on the grass track there.

Meritable had co-trainer Sue Thompson aboard when running 1000m in 1:08.1, the last 600 in 36.9.

The six-year-old entire finished second in the Group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas as a three-year-old before being campaigned in Australia and has had two trials since entering the Thompson/Brown stable. He is likely to resume in an open 1200m sprint at Otaki on May 4.

Meltemi, who could start at Woodville on Wednesday of next week, also ran a solo 1000m and clocked 1:06.5, the last 600 in 37.3.

Free Bee was not hurried when running a 1000m on her own in 1:12.6, the last 600 in 41.3. She was a bit unlucky when finishing eighth over 1400m at Trentham last start and will drop back to 1200m in a Rating 65 race at Awapuni this Friday. Apprentice Crystal Lindsay has the mount.

Nozumi, who contests the maiden 1400m race at Awapuni on Friday, worked in at three-quarter pace from the 1000m peg, running the first 400m in 30.3 before quickening slightly over the last 600 in 39.8. He contests the maiden 1400m race at Awapuni with Kate Hercock to ride.

Basil The Greek, a member of Dean Howard’s small team, clocked 54.5 for 800m, the last 600 in 39 while stablemate Porters Way ended his work with 600m in 38.5.

Vaporize, preparing for the three-year-old 1200m race at Awapuni on Friday, was let off with an easy 1000m in 1:15.1, the last 600 in 42.5. Apprentice Jim Chung will ride him.
