A good 1000m workout by Meritable was one of the highlights at today’s Hastings trackwork session.
Fast work was conducted on the plough and No.1 grass, both tracks providing good footing.
Meritable looked to be travelling well on the outside of stablemate Celebrity at the finish of 1000m on the grass in 1:07.1, the last 600 in 37.8.
Meritable has been freshened since finishing fourth in an Open 1400m race at Ellerslie on June 7 and will now head to the Foxton trials on August 5 before resuming racing at Woodville on August 17.
Mount Cook and Father Ted worked in easily from the 1000m peg on the grass in 1:06.4, quickening over the last 600m in 37.4. Both horses also looked to be travelling well at the finish.
Anaroa ran a solo 800m on the plough in 52.1, the last 600 in 38.6 and looked to be stretching out well. He is another who has had a brief freshen up after racing at Wanganui in the middle of last month.
Basil The Greek ran an easy 800m on the plough in 56.7, the last 600 in 42.2 while Media Puppet and a Hello Youmzain two-year-old gelding in the Thompson/Brown stable ran home the last 600m of their work on the plough in 42.
Rocstock’nbarrell ran a solo 600m on the plough in 39.6 while a Per Incanto-Chic three-year-old in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable ran an easy 800m in 57.6, the last 600 in 42.3.
Prestissimo had co-trainer Jordan Bassett aboard when working easily over 800m on the plough in 59.1, the last 600 in 44.8. She is another expected to have a run at the Foxton trials on August 5.
Pelmanist was one of a number of horses from the Lowry/Zydenbos stable restricted to just three-quarter pace, coming home his last 600 in 44.9. He is a two-year-old by Savabeel.
Queen Yvaine clocked 44.1 for her last 600m on the plough while a Turn Me Loose-Midnight Molly two-year-old filly came home the last 600m of her work in 44.1. They are both in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable.
