TRACKWORK | 23 JAN 2024
John Jenkins | January 23, 2024

A dense blanket of fog covered the Hastings track form of this morning’s trackwork session preventing the timing of nearly all the gallops.

There was little in the way of fast work, which was confined to the plough.

Bellesgirl, a possible starter in the Rating 65 race over 2100m at Trentham on Saturday, was one horse timed but she was kept to just three-quarter pace over 1200m, running home the last 600 in 44.3.

The Niagara mare turned in a much improved performance when a close second over 2040m at Wanganui last start.

Her stablemate Free Bee worked in from about the 1100m peg on her own. She could not be timed in the fog but looked to be stretching out well at the finish.

The Rageese mare is another entered for Trentham on Saturday but will only start if track conditions are reasonably firm. She failed to see out the 1600m at Hastings last start but will be dropped back to a Rating 75 race over 1400m.

Candle and Testwin are two horses from the Lowry/Zydenbos entered for Trentham on Saturday but both will only start if track conditions are reasonably firm. They both underwent strong gallops at the Hastings track last Saturday and were to have their last bit of fast work on Wednesday.

Celebrant and Drawbridge, two others in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable, worked together over 800m in 53.9, the last 600 in 38.1. They will both have a run at the Hastings jumpouts on Friday.

Anaroa, Wewillrock and Carbon Copy were others who galloped over 800m but could not be timed in the fog.
