A good solo workout by last start winner Meritable and nice work by a couple of unnamed three-year-olds in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable were among the highlights at today’s Hastings trackwork session.
Fast work was conducted on the plough and wide out on the No. 1 grass, both tracks providing good footing.
Meritable worked over 1000m on the grass in 1:08.5, running the first 400 in an easy 29.8 before quickening slightly over the last 600 in 38.7 and looked to have plenty in reserve at the finish. The Snitzel entire is among the nominations for the Group 1 Proisir Plate (1400m) at Ellerslie on September 6 but is unlikely to get a start in the 1400m feature and will probably contest the $50,000 open sprint over 1400m at Otaki on the same day.
A Time Test-Maggie Grey three-year-old gelding and a Tivaci-Meridian three-year-old gelding, both in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable, worked nicely together over 800m on the plough in 52.4, the last 600 in 37.6. Co-trainer Guy Lowry said both horses show plenty of promise.
Exit Left was given an easy workout over 1000m on the grass in 1:09.1, the last 600 in 39.6. He went another good race for third over 1400m at Woodville last start and is likely to start next at Otaki on Saturday week.
Magill and Not A Doubt, both in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable, worked over 600m together on the grass in 38.4. Magill is a two-year-old colt by Farnan who is likely to have a trial at Foxton on September 16 and then contest the two-year-old race at Otaki on September 30.
Written Up worked on his own over 800m on the plough in 52, the last 600 in 38.5 while Tulsa King and Basilthegreek worked together over the same distance and clocked 53.4, the last 600 in 38.6.
A Per Incanto three-year-old filly and a three-year-old filly by The Autumn Sun worked together over 800m. They worked early and could not be timed from the 800m peg in the bad light but ran home the last 600 in 39.8. The Per Incanto filly is a full-sister to the smart Australian-trained sprinter Oak Hill.
Bedtime Story worked over 800m very early in the session and could not be timed in the dark. She showed she has come back in great order after a spell by winning an 850m heat at last week’s Foxton trials.
Impressive last start winner Testwin was restricted to just three-quarter pace over 1000m on the plough. He looks to have trained on the right way and will now head to the Otaki meeting on September 6 for another 1200m event.
Celebrity and a Hello Youmzain three-year-old, both trained by Mick Brown and Sue Thompson, worked easily over 600m in 41.2 while Flying Angel ended her work on the plough with an easy 600m in 40.4.
A Time Test three-year-old filly and one by Turn Me Loose, both in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable, worked in from the 800m peg on the plough and were timed to run the last 600 in 40.1. The Turn Me Loose filly is a half-sister to the promising Nightowl.
Queen Yvaine was timed to run a solo 800m in 56.4, the last 600 in 41.7 while Prestissimo ended her work on the plough with 600m in 40.3.
