Duncan Creek, preparing for the Open 1600m race at Otaki on Thursday, took the time honours in a reasonably quiet trackwork session at Hastings today.

Fast work was confined to the plough which provided good footing.

Duncan Creek worked in from the 1000m peg in 1:05.6, quickening appreciably over the last 800m in 49.6.

The Super Easy gelding was a last start fourth over 1600m on a heavy track at Woodville, where he spoilt his chances by wanting to lay out over the final stages. Apprentice Jim Chung rides him at Otaki.

Prestissimo, a likely starter in the O’Learys Fillies Stakes (1340m) at Wanganui on Saturday, was let off with an easy 600m in 41.2. She looks to have trained on well since her last start win over 1300m at Tauherenikau.

Free Bee and a Proisir four-year-old mare worked together over 1000m in 1:10, the last 600 in 39.2 while Faster Sooner Now, another entered for Otaki on Thursday, ended his work with 600m in 39s. He won a 1000m heat at the Waipukurau trials at the end of last month.

Can Johnny Be Good worked in from the 600m peg in 42.3, quickening over the last 400m in 26.3 while Cheers Not Tears ran the last 400m of her work in 27.8.

Mount Cook and Media Puppet, two horses in the Thompson/Brown stable, worked easily together over 800m in 57.4, the last 600 in 41.4 while a Darci Brahma two-year-old filly trained by Richard McKenzie and Jordan Basset worked in at three-quarter pace from the 1000m peg and quickened slightly over the last 600 in 43.1.

Pepperoni and a Shocking two-year-old filly were kept to just three-quarter pace over 800m in 59, the last 600 in 43.5. They are both trained by Guy Lowry and Leah Zydenbos.
