TRACKWORK | 27 AUGUST 2024

A good solo gallop by Wanganui entrant Moonlight Hustler was one of the highlights at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session.

Fast work was carried out on the plough (soft) and wide out on the No.1 grass, which provided firm footing.

Moonlight Hustler has trainer Danny Champion aboard when running a solo 1000m on the plough in 1:09.5, the first 400m in 29s and the final 600 in 40.5. The Rip Van Winkle mare has recorded a second, a third and a fourth in her last three starts and gets another chance to break through for a win in the Rating 65 race over 2040m at Wanganui on Saturday.

Zappa Jak also ran a solo 1000m on the plough and clocked 1:09.9, the last 600 in 40.6. A minor blood disorder prevented him from starting at last Friday’s Awapuni synthetic meeting and he may run next in a Rating 75 race over 2000m at Hastings on Saturday week.

Matinee looked to be travelling strongly alongside Little Miss Muffet at the end of 1000m on the grass in 1:08.6, the last 600 in 38.4 while Zarabella and a Super Easy gelding worked over the same ground in 1:06.8, the last 600 in 37.8. They are all trained by Danny Champion.

Bull Paki and Just Looking, two horses trained by Kirsty Lawrence, worked together over 1000m on the grass in 1:08.6, the last 600 in 38.8. Bull Paki finished at the tail of the field when making his race debut over 1200m at Woodville but was found to have a minor blood disorder post the race and so that run is best forgotten.

A Turn Me Loose four-year-old and an Alamosa three-year-old, both in the Thompson/Brown stable, worked in at three-quarter pace from the 800m peg on the plough in 55.4. quickening slightly over the last 600 in 39.7.

Wish Me Well also worked in at three-quarter pace from the 800m peg on the plough and ran home the last 600 in 42.3.
