Gohugo looked keen to go a lot faster when running a solo 1000m at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session.
Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided deep footing and wasn’t conducive to fast times.
Gohugo worked over 1000m in 1:10.9, running the first 400m in 28.5 before coming home the last 600 in 42.4. He could have gone a lot faster if required.
The Per Incanto gelding is coming off a good last start second over 1340m at Wanganui and will start next in a Rating 75 race over 1300m at Tauherenikau on February 6.
Tulsa King was another who was let off with an easy workout, working over 1000m at three-quarter pace and running home the last 600 in 46.8. He has been given a brief freshen up since his great last start second in the Listed Gingernuts Salver (2100m) at Ellerslie and looks in great order. He will start next in the Wairoa Cup (2100m) at Waipukurau on February 15 as a final lead up to the Group 1 $1.2million Trackside New Zealand Derby (2400m) at Ellerslie on March 7.
The jumper Touch Of Paradise, a stablemate of Tulsa King, worked well on his own over a round on the plough. He was timed from the 1200m peg in 1:24, running the first 600 in 45.7 before coming home strongly over the last 600 in 38.3.
Sea Star Win had trainer Caitlin Johnson aboard when sprinting 600m in 38.8 while Vincero ran a solo 1000m in 1:09.8, the last 600 in 39.8.
Buzzy Bee, another who could line up at Tauherenikau on February 6, clocked 1:09.4 for 1000m, the last 600 in 39.8 while stablemate Exit Left also worked over 1000m in 1:09.6, the last 600 in 40.9.
Uncle Ken was not hurried when running 1000m in 1:13.8, the last 600 in 42.7. The well-bred Savabeel gelding was a good last start third over 1600m at Wanganui.
Kayzino ran an easy 1000m in 1:11.3, the last 600 in 41.4 while Father Ted worked over the same ground in 1:10.6, the last 600 in 42.1.
Ocean Beau clocked 1:11.1 for an easy 1000m, the last 600 in 41.3 while Media Puppet was also kept under a hold when running over the same distance in 1:12.5, the last 600 in 41.5.
