Good solo gallops by the in-form stablemates Zorero and Testwin were the highlights at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session. Both horses are likely starters at Otaki this Saturday.
Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided soft footing.
Zorero clocked 52.9s for 800m on his own, running the first 200m in 15.2 before quickening appreciably over the last 600 in 37.7. Co-trainer Guy Lowry said the Per Incanto four-year-old has thrived since his last start win on the third day of the Hawke’s Bay Spring carnival and will be out to make it three wins in a row when he lines up in a Rating 5 race over 1200m at Otaki.
Testwin worked over 1000m on his own in 1:07.6, running the first 400m in an easy 30.5 before coming home strongly over the last 600 in 37.1. He needed the run when a close second over 1400m at Otaki on October 17, in what was his first race for almost two months. He will be entered for the Rating 75 1600m race at Otaki.
Stylish was another who hit out well this morning when she worked with stablemate Lady Chandon over 1000m in 1:07.8, the last 600 in 38.9. Stylish spoilt her chances by being very slow away when finishing fourth over 1100m at Taupo on debut and could tackle the three-year-old race over 1200m at Otaki.
Evensong, who could contest a maiden three-year-old race over 1400m at Woodville on Sunday, worked with Charlunga over 800m in 54.4, the last 600 in 39.3 while Basilthegreek, another likely starter at Woodville, ended his work with 1000m in 1:07.5, the last 600 in 40.9.
Abeecee was another who worked well on her own when running 1000m in 1:11.4, the last 600 in a quick 36.8 and she is likely to contest the Rating 65 race over 2100m at Otaki on Saturday.
Prestissimo, another likely starter at Woodville on Sunday, had co-trainer Jordan Bassett aboard when running 1000m in 1:05.5, the last 600 in 38.2. She was a close third over 1400m at Woodville last start.
Jim Dandy worked over 1000m on his own in 1:05.3, the last 600 in 38.5 while Harlem County and Lassie, both in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable, recorded 26.3 and 25.9 for two 400m sprints.
Eighty Eight was not hurried when running 800m in 56.8, the last 600 in 40.8.
