IN Our Horses
TRACKWORK | 28 JAN 2025
John Jenkins | January 28, 2025

There was little in the way of fast work at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session, with most horses restricted to just three-quarter pace.

The plough track was open for galloping and provided good footing.

Super Makutu took the time honours for the session when running a solo 800m in 53.8, the last 600 in 37.6. She is a three-year-old filly by Super Seth out of Bewitched. She finished second in a recent 1000m jumpout at Waipukurau and is now headed to the Foxton trials on February 11.

Fancy Like Lass had co-trainer Mick Brown aboard when running an easy 800m in 57.8, the last 600 in 42.3. She is unlikely to race again until February 22, where she could either contest a 1200m open sprint at Otaki or one over the same distance at Ellerslie.

No Trump, a nice looking three-year-old by Ace High in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable, was striding out well when finishing off his work with 600m in 40.1 while Bedtime Story also looked to be working well at the end of an easy 800m.

She is likely to start next in the Listed $120,000 Lisa Chittick Champagne Stakes (1400m) at Matamata on February 15.

Queen Yvaine was kept to just three-quarter pace over 800m, the last 600 in 44.3. She turned in a creditable performance for fourth on debut over 1600m at Wanganui and will start next in another maiden 1600m race at Tauherenikau on Thursday of next week.

An Embellish two-year-old filly and one by El Roca, both in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable, worked together over 600m in 40.2 while their stablemate Ocean Beau clocked 57.1 for an easy 800m, the last 600 in 41.3. She is a half-sister to Fancy Like Lass.

Leverne worked on her own over 800m in 55.8, the last 600 in 40.9. She is a Rubick-Miss Verne three-year-old filly who will also head to the Foxton trials on February 11.

Prestissimo was not extended when running a solo 1000m in 1:15.5, the last 600 in 44.4 while Candle was let off with an easy 600m in 45.9.

Creation and a Castlevecchio two-year-old, both in the Thompson/Brown stable, ended their work with 600m in 44.8.
