Tarzino Trophy entrant Faraglioni was given a strong hit-out at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session in preparation for Saturday’s Group 1 feature.

Fast work was carried out on the plough (good) and wide out on the No.1 grass (firm).

The course proper is looking in tremendous order and, with little rain forecast over the next few days, it should provide good footing for the first day of the Colliers Hawke’s Bay Spring Carnival.

Faraglioni had raceday rider Jonathan Riddell aboard when he took off from the 1200m peg on the plough, picking up stablemate Sweet Envy inside the last 700m.

Faraglioni was timed to run from the 1000m peg  to the 600 in 60.5s and the two horses came home the last 600m together in 37.2.

Trainer Josh Shaw brought the two horses through from his Levin base on Sunday and said both have settled in well and enjoying the warm Hawke’s Bay climate.

Zappa Jak, preparing for the Rating 75 race over 2000m at Hastings on Saturday, worked with Matinee over 1000m on the No.1 grass in 1:05.9, with both horses coming home strongly over the last 600 in 36.8.

Greystone ended his work on the plough with a strong 1200m, the last 1000m in 1:02.9 and final 600 in 38.1. This was good work for a jumper and he will line up in the maiden steeplechase at Woodville on Sunday.

Falcons Diamond and Satomi, two horses from the Lowry/Zydenbos stable entered for Woodville on Sunday, worked keenly together over 1000m in 1:02.3, the last 600 in 36.3. Falcons Diamond won a 1000m Foxton trial on August 22 while Satomi finished third in a 1000m jumpout at Hastings on August 12.

Written Up ran a solo 1000m on the plough in 1:08.6, the last 600 in 40.4 while his stablemate Nakajima ran over the same ground in 1:12.6, the last 600 in 39.3.

An Alamosa three-year-old and a Turn Me Loose four-year-old, both in the Thompson/Brown stable, worked together over 1000m on the plough in 1:08.6, the last 600 in 39.3 while Nozumi, also in the same stable, was let off with an easy 800m in 57.8, the last 600 in 42.3.

A Super Easy gelding and Zarabella, both trained by Danny Champion, worked together over 1000m on the grass in 1:06.9, the last 600 in 37.9 while Moonlight Hustler clocked 28.4 and 28.1 for two easy 400m runs on the grass.

Vaporize ended her work on the plough with an easy 600m in 41.9 while a Time Test three-year-old filly trained by Richard McKenzie ran over the same ground in 41.1.
