TRACKWORK | 30 JULY 2024

Zappa Jak, preparing for the $100,000 special conditions race over 2000m at Cambridge next week, stretched out nicely on his own at this morning’s Hastings trackwork session.

There was not much in the way of fast work with most horses being restricted to just three-quarter pace.

Working on the plough (deep) Zappa Jak worked in at three-quarter pace from the 1000m in 1:12.8, quickening slightly over the last 600 in 42s. He looks to have trained on well since winning on the Cambridge synthetic track last week. Kate Hercock has been booked to ride him.

Testwin, who is likely to resume on the first day of the Hawke’s Bay spring carnival, also worked nicely on his own over 1000m at just a bit quicker than three-quarter pace, the last 600 in 43.1. He was impressive when winning an 800m jumpout at Hastings last week.

Flashlight worked in at three-quarter pace from the 1000m peg and was let stride out a bit quicker over the last 600 in 41. He impressed when winning a maiden over 1600m at Otaki in April and was then turned out for a spell. He is another likely to resume at the Hawke’s Bay spring carnival.

Eparaima worked in easily from the 800m peg in 59.2, the last 600 in 43.5 and she is another who looks to be coming up well in a fresh campaign. She could resume at the Awapuni synthetic meeting on August 9.

The Stoney One worked in from the 1000m peg at three-quarter pace, running the last 600 in 44.7s. He underwent a throat operation while out spelling and co-trainer Guy Lowry thinks it has made a big difference to his breathing.

A Telperion-Red Carpet two-year-old filly in the Lowry/Zydenbos stable, stretched out well over 800m in 57.6, the last 600 in 42.1 while Falcon Diamond worked in at three-quarter pace from the 1000m peg, clocking 44.1 for the last 600m.

Anaroa was not hurried when running a solo 800m, the last 600 in 45.4 while stablemate Satomi underwent similar work.

Anaroa was another who went well at last week’s Hastings jumpouts and could resume in a Rating 65 race over 1600m on the first day of the Hawke’s Bay Spring carnival.
